Is there a word for a side project to a side project?
Updated: Thursday, 14 August 2008
Two-fifths of alexisonfire, Wade MacNeil and Dallas Green (extra credit: the Black Lungs and City and Colour, respectively) have teamed up with Sparta frontman Jim Ward (who also leads Texas-based alt-country band Sleepercar). The trio gathered at the Edge 102.1 studios back in June to record a cover of Attack in Black’s ‘If All I Thought Were True,’ which first appeared on their 2007 album Marriage. Confused yet? As if this relationship couldn’t get more incestuous, Attack in Black’s hometown of Welland, Ontario is only a hop, skip and a jump from St. Catharines, where MacNeil and Green call home. Jim Ward is kind of like that older, cooler cousin that appears from out of town to shake things up.

The track is recorded with even less musical accompaniment than the original, just three voices and an acoustic guitar. It sounds like something that was recorded in a basement, never meant to reach anyone’s ears, and therein lies the charm. It’s true to the original, and almost seems more like Attack in Black than the original.

Interested? The digital single was released Tuesday, August 12 on Dine Alone Records and can be purchased on iTunes.
