Sandman Viper Command’s debut album, Everybody See This, is that sort of rare debut album. It’s that sort of album with just the right amount of garage pop and guitar rock, where your fingers can’t help but follow along with the beat. It’s that sort of album that you find yourself listening to on repeat. It’s that sort of album that leaves you wanting more.
The members of Sandman Viper Command are young, their collective age just shy of twenty-two. But it’s that unapologetic youthfulness that drives their music; it flows and rages, it wrenches at your heart, it lifts you up one moment and then sends you slamming back into the ground another. Compelling and thoughtful, loud and angry: this is teenage angst done right. The album opens with the infectious beat of “Strawberry Quick”; “Midwest Moses” is a pensive down-tempo ballad; “Oh Yeah, It’s Fusion” is a hand clapping, foot stomping song that begs to be heard live. It’s no surprise that these boys have been compared to the likes of fellow Canadians, Sloan, but they are well on their way to finding their own home within the Canadian music scene. And we’re stoked to have them stay.
